Social Work Advocates at State Capitol

Advocacy is an important part of social work. Practicing advocacy skills is a requirement in upper level social work courses. 

Students scheduled meetings with state legislators to speak with them about concerns for social workers and the clients they serve. They also observed the General Assembly. 

State Sen. Charlie Bethel meets with students Christina Ellinghausen and Kellie Newport.

State Sen. Jeff Mullis meets with students Cory Lowe, Christina Ellinghausen, Danielle Lyons, Kellie Newport, and Ericka Reed.

Students Emily Priest, Brandie Stern, and Rosafay Lawson meet with representatives, including Tom Dixon. 

Rep. Rick Jasperse meets with students Kellie Newport, Christina Ellinghausen, Melissa Clayton, and Steven Cooper. 

Rep. Kate Dempsey meets with students Melissa Clayton, Amairany Vidana, Shonna Bailey, and Ashley Stevens.
